Republic today

We are proud to have delivered a unique campus offering at Republic – bringing together higher education institutions, shared workspaces, local, national and international businesses, training facilities, independent amenity and community organisations.

Our Plans

For the next phase of our masterplan, we want to breathe even more life into Republic, creating a thriving and attractive environment which operates beyond working hours. We want to deliver a mix of homes for local people and for students to live, supporting the universities we have here and beyond. We also want to create more affordable workspaces and a data centre to power our local and regional connectivity.

To make this happen, we are bringing forward plans for the redevelopment of Mulberry Place and Lighterman House.

Through this, we aim to deliver:

A high-quality residential building providing 169 new homes

A new student accommodation building with 716 rooms on site

A new data centre improving digital capacity

An extension to the public realm including play facilities and public green space

Flexible community space for use by local organisations

Flexible workspace for start-ups and small businesses

Context

Republic is based in a location undergoing a huge transformation.

The Mayor of London has identified the Isle of Dogs and South Poplar as one of twelve Opportunity Areas in East London. As such, it is expected to experience substantial growth over the next 20 years, with 31,000 new homes and 110,000 new jobs being created. The plans we have brought forward have been discussed in great detail with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and will contribute to their own vision for the local area – one of growth and transformation.
